. Gendercide – The Systematic Extermination.

Gendercide is “the systematic extermination of the particular gender” in favor of the other. This has been globally practiced. Sex selective murder of the female is a huge crime against humanity. Preventing the future births of these innocent lives through sexual mutilation has become part of the third world societies. Sex selective abortions are more prevalent in countries like China and India leading to the wipeout or the disappearance of millions and millions of girls.

There are different causes leading to this gendercide.

     Cultural preference of male child, who is considered for lineage of the family and for running the family business.
      Preferred family size, where educated women like to have one or two children
Increased abuse of the technology that has helped gender discrimination that has helped the killing much easier.

      Technology has to be used to aid the infertile couple to bear children and to prevent deaths due to serious illnesses and to protect the lives, but it has been misused to kill and destroy lives only.

The psychological impact it has on the mother who is forced to abort her child or allowing others to kill her girl child is tremendous and she lives with guilt, one day to take her own life. This is seen in China where women die using agricultural fertilizers.

     In educated population again there is a slight tilt toward having a small family size and in a culture that favors and values male child, there is a huge likelihood for gender selection and it is common to abort the female feticide. Also lower fertility rates have compelled the few to have male child and this is seen in Korea and China.

     Though measures are taken by different countries to put an end to this evil of killing and to stop the malpractice of using technology to destroy female children, there are different illegal clinics that are always ready to do it for extra money. There is always going to be a preference of male sex as long as many evil and superstitious beliefs are existent in the society.

     No matter how much a society is developed it is always going to be very hard to make a huge stride all of a sudden. Educating the public about the sex-ratio imbalance, bringing awareness to the individuals that healthy living is having both sexes living side by side with equality, and to encourage women to step up and say NO TO SEX if they do not want to have female child in the family, empowering her to be independent so that she can stand on her own legs if her decisions to keep her baby leads to making choice even to leave the spouse who forces her to abort her baby girl.  Developing strategies and interventions for greater accountability on the part of the males on confronting the injustice to women – sex selection promoting gender equality should be the prime goal of these third world countries.

     The gender-ratio imbalance is always “a hidden danger” for any society and it will “affect social stability”. So it is best to remind each other of the responsibility to protect humanity, it is an important way to lead a life worthy, to act as human beings and put an end to the “killing”.
